Cognitive Science & Training
About Human Intuition
An independent, free interactive platform built to explore how people estimate physical, temporal, visual and quantitative quantities without conscious calculation.
The Idea Behind the Project
- โ Most cognitive training apps focus on deliberate reasoning โ logic puzzles, math drills, memorization grids. Those train System 2.
- โ But most of the fast, high-stakes decisions we actually make in daily life rely on System 1: the automatic, associative mode described by Daniel Kahneman and studied by Herbert Simon.
- โ Human Intuition trains that side of cognition โ the fast, automatic side โ through focused, time-pressured mini-challenges.
- โ The project started as a personal experiment: can the kind of rapid, automatic judgments we all rely on every day be broken down into measurable, trainable mini-challenges?
Five Categories
๐๏ธ Visual
Proportion, angle, color, pattern recognition.
โ๏ธ Physical
Weight, force, balance, friction.
โฑ๏ธ Time
Duration, rhythm, reaction, timing.
๐ข Quantity
Estimation, gut feel, spotting anomalies.
๐ง Memory
Short-term perceptual recall.
Structure
โข
Each category has 6 subcategories.
โข
Each subcategory has 10 progressive levels (5 for reaction, 9 for grid memory).
โข
There are 30 achievements to unlock across all categories.
โข
Progress is tracked per category, per subcategory, and overall.
How the Challenges Are Developed
- โ Each subcategory went through several iterations before release.
- โ The task had to be intuitively clear without instructions.
- โ The answer had to be unambiguous.
- โ Difficulty had to rise smoothly across levels.
- โ Feedback from players is the main driver of updates and new subcategories.
Technology
Built as a single-page web application in vanilla JavaScript and Tailwind CSS.
Uses
localStorage for persistence โ nothing is sent to a server.
Uses the Web Audio API for subtle sound feedback.
Uses SVG for the ring-based score visualizations.
๐ก๏ธ No accounts, no tracking scripts, no server-side data collection.
Who Maintains the Site
